Self-Portrait of a Poet

I was born A fatherless child, Chicago native,
with a purpose in my heart beneath the wings of an angel,
raised with my mother's love.
My family is my society and being a writer is my nature.
I've lived an uneasy life
where I found comfort in the world of ideas
as a mystique man of heart,
mind and soul; young in appearance but old in spirit.
My life is like a script full of tearful episodes
as I inhabit and capture my natural element.
It is only at that precise moment
when I'm holding a pen expressing my love for words,
or just documenting life from my heart to the paper
that I feel truly alive.
It's the love of publishing my pain to the public
that justifies and gives definition to who I am,
but in retrospect I often look within myself to understand others.
I am my worst critic even when succeeding in life
where others have failed,
growing even more ambitious as a writer
with a deep insight into the dark and elusive minds of mortal mankind.
My world evolves around God whom I bear my confessions,
confide my deepest secrets and entrust with my life.
It is my belief that without him I'm nothing,
just a soul awakened in a useless corpse.
It's the nurturing force of my Heavenly father
that keeps me spiritually grounded and blessed with a way for words
while embraced by the endurance of my family
which makes me who and what I am today...A poetic soul......
